Your July Love & Sex Horoscope: Summer Love Gets REAL

What’s not to love about July? Dazzling fireworks, Fourth of July festivities galore, bright sunny days spent poolside, piles of great beach reads and sipping spritzy summer cocktails—all leading into evenings devoted to the company of loved ones while grilling or sitting by a fire. These are just a few of the sweet summer activities you might be reveling in during July.

Given its jubilant, celebratory, and warm-hearted energy, it’s no surprise that July spans both two weeks of romantic, family-oriented Cancer season, and two weeks of spotlight-loving, sexy Leo season.

This year, July is setting up to be a season of game-changing, eye-opening, and heartwarming moments. It’s going to be the ultimate time not only to reassess relationships but to act on your most burning desires.

From July 1 to August 17, Mars (planet of passion) moves through confident fixed fire sign Leo, bringing a self-assuredness and playfulness to our actions and sex lives. It’ll be about luxurious seduction and boldly pursuing romantic dreams and sexually-satisfying fantasies.

Around July 2, the total solar eclipse and new moon in Cancer will take the vibe of the moment to a fever pitch, requiring massive, emotional self-reflection. The main themes include how you find comfort, seek fulfillment, relate to family, and show compassion.

Then, from July 3 to 27, Venus (planet of love) will move through Cancer as well, keeping us swimming through deep, sentimental waters in terms of how we seek connection with our significant others or potential matches. Relationships benefit from emotional synchronicity and intelligence—and maybe a slightly goofy, fun-loving sense of humor.

But traditional forward movement is bound to be slowed or even halted from July 7 to 31, because Mercury (planet of communication) will be retrograde in Leo and move back into Cancer for its latter days (from the 19th to 31st). We all know by now that Mercury retrograde may create some chaos in our lives, but in Leo and Cancer it’ll focus more on addressing old business in order to heal. It may have you reconsidering a past relationship or unearthing emotional wounds from the past.

Around July 16, the full moon and partial lunar eclipse occurs in Capricorn, bringing a focus to doing the work, either in your actual career or the work of give-and-take or getting on the same page as a lover. On the heels of this dramatic astrological moment are two challenging aspects for Venus. The love planet, traveling through Cancer, opposes Saturn (planet of foundation) in Capricorn on July 17 and then transformative Pluto on July 21, throwing various challenges and obstacles into whatever path we’re on in our love lives. We’ll do well to focus on the big picture lesson that can be learned from any sort of setback or frustration.

Thankfully, a bright spot—quite literally—pops up from July 22 to August 23, when the sun moves into Leo, inspiring creative self-expression, glitzy, dizzying displays of affection, and the confidence to make even the wildest-eyed wishes come true.

On July 24, Mercury’s backward movement brings it up close and personal and into a conjunction with Venus, making it the ideal time to open your heart, perhaps to someone from your past.

Then, from July 27 to August 21, Venus follows the sun into exuberant, natural-born leader Leo, fueling us with even more drive to share and chase down our most “fairy tale-esque” dreams, especially when it comes to romance and our closest bonds.

Around July 31, another new moon occurs, this time in Leo, setting the stage for passionate, magical intention-setting.

Here’s what each sign can expect between the sheets this July. (If you know your rising sign, you’d do well to check out that sign’s forecast, too.)

And while communicator Mercury moves backward through your fifth house of romance from July 7 to 19, you’ll struggle to making concrete plans with your S.O. or dates, so leaning into spontaneity is your best bet.
